Achieving a sculpted and proportionate body can feel daunting for individuals with larger body types, especially when stubborn fat deposits resist diet and exercise. Plus size lipo offers a specialized, effective solution by targeting these areas and reshaping your body to create a balanced, contoured appearance.

This guide explores what makes plus size lipo unique, who it’s for, and why Sono Bello stands out as the premier provider of this transformative procedure.

What Is Plus Size Lipo?

Plus size lipo is a variation of traditional liposuction, specifically designed for individuals with larger body types. Unlike standard liposuction, which typically focuses on candidates close to their ideal weight, plus size lipo accommodates a broader range of body shapes and BMIs.

How It Works

  • Targeted Fat Removal: Focuses on stubborn fat deposits in areas such as the abdomen, thighs, back, and arms.
  • Laser-Assisted Technology: Sono Bello uses advanced laser technology to emulsify fat, making removal less traumatic and reducing recovery time. This also stimulates collagen and elastin production, which naturally tightens skin post-procedure.
  • Safety through Awake Liposuction: The procedure is performed using local anesthesia and mild sedation, eliminating the risks associated with general anesthesia and enhancing patient safety.

This approach is not a weight-loss procedure but a method of reshaping the body to improve proportions and boost confidence.

Who Is a Candidate for Plus Size Lipo?

Plus size lipo is ideal for individuals who meet the following criteria:

  • BMI Range: Suitable for those with BMIs up to 42. In some cases, exceptions may be made based on individual health conditions and goals.
  • Good General Health: Candidates should not have unmanaged medical conditions such as uncontrolled diabetes or recent cardiac issues.
  • Targeted Fat Reduction Goals: The procedure focuses on localized fat removal rather than overall weight loss.
  • Motivation to Maintain Results: Patients committed to a healthy lifestyle post-procedure can enjoy long-lasting benefits.

A consultation with a skilled Sono Bello surgeon will help determine your eligibility and create a personalized treatment plan tailored to your body and goals.

Sono Bello’s Differentiators: What Sets Us Apart

At Sono Bello, we combine cutting-edge technology with unmatched expertise to deliver exceptional results for every patient.

Advanced Laser Technology

Our laser-assisted liposuction offers two key benefits:

  1. Easier Fat Removal: The laser emulsifies fat, making it easier to remove while reducing trauma to surrounding tissues. This leads to less discomfort and a faster recovery.
  2. Skin Tightening: By stimulating collagen and elastin remodeling, the laser promotes natural skin tightening, creating a smoother, more toned appearance.

Awake Procedure

The Awake Procedure uses gentle oral sedation and localized anesthesia, ensuring a safer and more comfortable experience compared to traditional methods requiring general anesthesia.

Expert Surgeons

Sono Bello’s board-certified surgeons bring unparalleled expertise to every procedure. With thousands of successful surgeries performed, our surgeons are among the most experienced in the field of body contouring, ensuring precise and transformative results.

Minimized Downtime

Thanks to the combination of advanced technology and surgical expertise, recovery times are shorter. Most patients can resume light activities within days and see significant improvements within weeks.

Preparing for Plus Size Lipo

Proper preparation is key to a successful procedure and recovery. Here’s how to get ready:

  • Consultation: Discuss your health history, goals, and expectations with a Sono Bello surgeon to develop a personalized plan.
  • Weight Stability: Maintain a stable weight before surgery to enhance the effectiveness and longevity of your results.
  • Plan for Recovery: Arrange for time off work and support with daily tasks during the initial recovery period.
  • Pre-Op Instructions: Follow your surgeon’s guidelines, such as avoiding specific medications or fasting before the procedure, to ensure a smooth experience.

What to Expect During and After Plus Size Lipo

During the Procedure

Plus size lipo is performed under local anesthesia to ensure comfort and safety. The surgeon uses advanced tools and laser technology to target and remove fat deposits while carefully contouring the treated areas. Depending on the number of areas being addressed, the procedure typically lasts one to three hours.

After the Procedure

Recovery involves mild swelling, bruising, and soreness, which can be managed with over-the-counter pain relief. Compression garments are provided to support healing and enhance results.

Patients can generally:

  • Resume light activities within two to three days.
  • Return to normal routines within two weeks.
  • See full results within three to six months, depending on individual healing factors and adherence to post-op instructions.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

  1. Is plus size lipo safe? Yes, the procedure is safe when performed by experienced surgeons using advanced technology. Local anesthesia further reduces risks compared to general anesthesia.
  2. Can I undergo plus size lipo with a BMI over 42? While the procedure is typically recommended for BMIs up to 42, exceptions may be made based on individual health conditions and goals.
  3. How much fat can be removed during plus size lipo? A single session can remove approximately 4,000-5,000cc of fat. Your surgeon will determine the appropriate amount based on your unique needs.
  4. Will I have loose skin after the procedure? Laser-assisted techniques help minimize loose skin by promoting collagen production. Results depend on factors such as age, skin elasticity, and the amount of fat removed.
  5. How long does recovery take? Most patients return to light activities within a few days and can resume normal routines within two weeks. Full results typically appear within three to six months.
  6. Is plus size lipo a weight-loss procedure? No, plus size lipo is not designed for weight loss. It focuses on reshaping the body through targeted fat removal and contouring.

The appearance of “man boobs” or excess chest tissue in men can be a source of frustration and self-consciousness. While this condition may arise from various factors, solutions are available to help achieve a sculpted, more masculine chest.

At Sono Bello, we offer a comprehensive approach to man boob reduction, combining advanced surgical techniques and lifestyle recommendations tailored to your unique needs. In this guide, we’ll explore the causes behind excess chest tissue, lifestyle tips for managing the condition, and how Sono Bello’s treatments can help.

Understanding the Causes of Male Breast Tissue

Excess chest tissue can result from one or a combination of the following factors:

Excessive Chest Fat

Subcutaneous fat on the chest is the most common culprit. This type of fat accumulates just below the skin, often creating a round, puffy appearance around the nipple area.

Loose Skin

If you’ve lost significant weight, the leftover loose skin may contribute to a sagging or droopy chest appearance.

Gynecomastia

Gynecomastia refers to the development of glandular breast tissue in men due to hormonal imbalances. This condition often occurs during puberty, with aging, or as a side effect of medications or steroid use.

A Combination of Factors

In many cases, man boobs result from a combination of fat, loose skin, and gynecomastia, requiring a multifaceted approach for effective treatment.

Lifestyle Tips for Reducing Male Breast Fat

If your man boobs are caused primarily by excess fat, a consistent, healthy lifestyle can significantly improve your chest’s appearance.

Caloric Deficit

Burning more calories than you consume is key to reducing overall body fat, including chest fat. Focus on nutrient-dense foods and portion control to achieve sustainable fat loss.

Exercise

Incorporate both strength training and cardiovascular exercises into your routine:

  • Strength Training: Push-ups, bench presses, and dumbbell flys target the chest muscles, improving tone and definition.
  • Cardio Workouts: Running, cycling, or swimming helps burn calories and reduce overall fat.

Consistency is Key

Fat loss takes time, and results will vary by individual. Stay consistent with your diet and exercise regimen for the best outcomes.

Sono Bello offers advanced, minimally invasive solutions for man boob reduction, addressing fat, loose skin, and gynecomastia effectively.

Minimally Invasive Fat Removal

Sono Bello’s advanced laser liposuction technology targets and removes fat precisely from the chest area. The laser also promotes skin tightening, enhancing the overall appearance of the chest.

Skin Tightening Solutions

For individuals with loose skin, Sono Bello uses state-of-the-art plasma energy technology to stimulate collagen production, improving skin elasticity and firmness.

Tailored Gynecomastia Treatments

For patients with gynecomastia, our specialized techniques allow for the precise removal of glandular tissue, reshaping the chest for a more masculine contour.

Benefits of Sono Bello’s Man Boob Reduction Techniques

Choosing Sono Bello for your chest contouring needs offers several advantages:

  • Awake Procedure: Performed under localized anesthesia for a safer and more comfortable experience.
  • Minimally Invasive: Small entry points ensure minimal scarring and faster recovery.
  • Skin Tightening: Laser technology stimulates collagen production, leaving a smoother, firmer appearance.
  • Quick Recovery: Most patients resume light activities within a few days.
  • Customized Approach: Treatments are tailored to each patient’s anatomy and goals, ensuring natural and balanced results.

What to Expect During and After the Procedure

During the Procedure

The procedure is performed under localized anesthesia to ensure comfort. Surgeons use advanced tools to target and remove fat or glandular tissue precisely, while laser-assisted techniques promote skin tightening.

After the Procedure

Recovery is typically quick, with mild swelling and bruising lasting a few days. A compression garment is provided to support healing and enhance results.

  • Light Activities: Resume within one to two days.
  • Final Results: Visible within three to six months as swelling subsides and the body heals.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

  1. Is Sono Bello’s man boob reduction permanent? Yes, the fat and glandular tissue removed are permanently eliminated. However, maintaining a healthy lifestyle is essential to prevent new fat accumulation.
  2. How long does recovery take? Most patients resume light activities within one to two days. Full recovery varies but typically takes a few weeks.
  3. Does the procedure leave scars? Sono Bello’s minimally invasive techniques use small entry points, leaving only freckle-sized marks that fade over time.
  4. Can this procedure treat gynecomastia? Yes, Sono Bello’s techniques effectively address both fat and glandular tissue associated with gynecomastia.
  5. How much does the procedure cost? Costs vary depending on the extent of the treatment. Flexible financing options are available to make the procedure more accessible.

Take Control of Your Confidence

Man boob reduction is about more than aesthetics—it’s about feeling confident and comfortable in your own skin. Whether your concerns stem from excess fat, loose skin, or gynecomastia, Sono Bello offers advanced, customized solutions to help you achieve your goals.

People considering a liposuction procedure or other body contouring treatments may have questions around what it means to be a patient with Sono Bello.

Some prospective patients may be unaware of the Sono Bello treatment process, what steps Sono Bello takes to ensure patient safety and Sono Bello costs.

Here is a closer look at how the process works at Sono Bello and what goes into providing patients with the procedures they need to achieve their ideal body shape.

If you still have questions, you can schedule a free personal consultation with a Sono Bello patient care consultant who can provide personalized answers and expert guidance.

What is Sono Bello?

Sono Bello is an industry leader in providing liposuction, body contouring and excess skin removal procedures to patients across the country.

With 185+ Board certified plastic surgeons and 100+ locations throughout the United States, Sono Bello is ranked as America’s #1 Cosmetic Surgery Specialist based on the most locations nationwide and largest group of practicing board-certified surgeons.

From the beginning, Sono Bello has focused on providing cutting-edge, personalized total body transformations for men and women.

How does a Sono Bello procedure work?

Sono Bello treatment options are designed to help men and women achieve their ideal body shape with cosmetic procedures like liposuction, body contouring, and excess skin removal.

Three important standards guide Sono Bello’s approach: experience, specialization and customization.

All of Sono Bello’s procedures are supported by over a decade of experience providing body contouring procedures for patients, along with the specialization of highly skilled surgeons across the country.

As a result, Sono Bello has provided thousands of people with total body transformations specifically designed to match each patient’s unique needs and goals.

The procedures offered by Sono Bello are designed to maximize safety, providing the best possible results for patients while effectively treating & contouring each patient’s targeted body areas.

Sono Bello believes that cosmetic procedures are both a science and an art and require an enormous amount of education and practical application to do right. That’s why Sono Bello surgeons are carefully selected to provide incredible results for every patient.

How do patients choose the right Sono Bello procedure?

Because Sono Bello does not embrace “one size fits all” solutions, each procedure can be easily customized to address each patient’s specific problems. Each of the more than 300,000 procedures we have performed have addressed specific problem areas for thousands of women and men.

Once a patient understands which areas of the body they would like contoured or where they would like fat removed from, they discuss their procedure options with a Sono Bello patient care consultant through a free consultation.

During this consultation, the patient will get a clear picture of what techniques their surgeon will use and what they need to know to prepare for the procedure itself.

Micro-laser liposuction can also assist the delivery of thermal effects to the deep dermis, which can enhance collagen stimulation and help to strengthen and tighten the patient’s skin. This can help provide a tighter, healthier, and more natural look post-operation.

Some procedures, including the AbEX procedure, combine liposuction with excision (or removal) of loose sagging excess skin from the abdomen, which helps achieve a more toned and sculpted look.

How does a patient schedule a Sono Bello procedure?

Once the patient has a clear idea of which procedure they’d like to move forward with, they will then schedule their procedure with a Sono Bello surgeon at one of our 80+ nationwide locations. What is the Sono Bello patient experience like?

Sono Bello patients remain awake during the procedure, thanks in large part to the techniques used during Sono Bello fat removal procedures. The surgeon will administer local anesthesia to the targeted area, rather than general anesthesia. Not only does this allow patients to remain awake during their procedure, but it also helps minimize downtime and provides a faster recovery.

For especially nervous patients, a doctor may be able to provide medicine that will help the patient to relax during the surgery.

Typically, the liposuction procedure lasts around 2.5 to 3 hours, or around 3-3.5 hours for procedures involving removal of excess skin. Sono Bello recommends patients arrive for their procedure at least an hour and a half ahead of their scheduled surgery time to prepare.

What is the pre-procedure process like for Sono Bello patients?

Preparing for a Sono Bello procedure is key to making each patient’s experience the best it can be.

The first step for any patient planning a liposuction, body contouring, or skin removal procedure with Sono Bello is to set realistic expectations. Sono Bello surgeons are highly skilled at not only removing fat, but also in helping to smooth, shape, and even treated areas to achieve the best possible results.

That said, state medical boards each set a maximum amount of fat that can be removed in a single procedure—maximums that Sono Bello surgeons in your state must adhere to— so it’s best for each patient to really understand how much

Patients should also expect to take some downtime after the procedure. Everyone heals differently, and so it’s best for patients to plan for a few days of rest after their procedure, and to follow the recovery plan as advised by their surgeon.

It is also important that patients have someone to drive them home after their procedure, and ideally to stay with them for 24 hours afterward to provide care and support.

Some patients may consider losing weight prior to their procedure, which may (in some cases) aid patients in achieving their ideal body shape. For patients focused specifically on removing fat from stubborn problem areas, weight loss before the procedure may not be necessary.

All patients should plan to stop consuming caffeine no less than 48 hours before their procedure, and to drink lots of fluids in the days before. Patients should also eat a small meal the morning before their procedure.

What does post-procedure recovery look like for Sono Bello patients?

Usually, patients remain at their local Sono Bello office for just 15 minutes after the procedure is finished. Another adult (usually a spouse, partner, parent, etc.) will drive them home to begin the recovery process.

Once home, the patient will be instructed to follow their recovery plan as outlined by their surgeon. Most patients are instructed to rest for 24 hours after surgery and are encouraged to return to light activity. Most patients return to work in just a few days after their procedure: about 2-3 days post-procedure for liposuction, or up to about a week for procedures like AbEX that also involve excess skin removal.

Usually, patients wear a compression garment for around 3-6 weeks after the procedure to encourage even healing and reduce swelling. A Sono Bello surgeon will provide the patient with a customized recovery plan to guide the healing process.

Most patients start to see results in the first several days to weeks and within 6 months they will see the final results of their Sono Bello procedure.

Why choose Sono Bello for liposuction or body contouring?

When selecting the right surgeon or provider for a liposuction procedure or body contouring, it’s crucial that each patient takes the time to research their options and find the right one to match their needs and comfort level.

Sono Bello has taken great strides in customizing each procedure to the patient’s unique concerns, goals and considerations. More than 185 Board Certified surgeons across all Sono Bello locations have performed more than 300,000 procedures for patients with all kinds of unique needs.

As a result, all Sono Bello procedures are backedguaranteed by a proven track record for helping patients achieve their ideal body shape.

The result: thousands of satisfied Sono Bello patients, who have left over 24,500 five-star reviews online about their experience and shared their stories for others who are considering a Sono Bello procedure for themselves.

Because Sono Bello pays special attention to their accreditation and ongoing training, patients can feel secure knowing that their Sono Bello surgeon is using the best and most modern procedures. Sono Bello surgeons are highly trained in micro-laser technology and perform thousands of body contouring procedures every year. The Sono Bello team-based approach gives patients the highest degree of attention and care.

What are Sono Bello’s credentials?

Sono Bello follows the operation guidelines provided by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC), an independent, not-for-profit organization that represents a leading voice in protecting patient safety and maintaining the highest standards for quality of care.

All Sono Bello offices are accredited by the AAAHC, which closely examines Sono Bello’s liposuction facilities, systems, policies and procedures to help maintain that elevated level of care and attention to detail.

Additionally, all Sono Bello surgeons are highly trained in micro-laser technology and specialize in the art and science of superior body contouring. Sono Bello surgeons are highly qualified to provide liposuction, body contouring and excess skin removal for a wide variety of patients.

Are consultations required before a Sono Bello procedure?

Yes, every Sono Bello patient is required to schedule a free consultation with Sono Bello patient care consultant before scheduling their procedure.

This is an important part of the planning process and usually offers the best opportunity for a patient to truly understand their options for removing fat, contouring their body areas and achieving their desired look.

During the free consultation, the Sono Bello patient care consultant will explain all the benefits of Sono Bello’s unique procedures, discuss each patient’s goals and expectations, answer any questions and help develop the patient’s customized procedure plan. This is where each patient will also get a clear picture of the cost for their desired procedures.

How much does Sono Bello cost?

The cost of a Sono Bello procedure (or combination of procedures) is specific to each patient and depends largely on several factors, including:

  • Which procedures the patient would like done
  • How many areas they would like treated
  • The patient’s Body Mass Index (BMI)

Because Sono Bello specialized in liposuction and body contouring, this usually means patients are able to access the procedures they are looking for at affordable prices and still achieve high quality results.

Sono Bello takes special care to make fat removal and other procedures available for patients at any budget level, so it’s best for each patient to move forward with a consultation to get a clear understanding of their total cost and payment options.

Does Sono Bello offer payment plans?

Yes, Sono Bello offers financing options with payment plans for patients interested in liposuction, body contouring, skin removal and any other Sono Bello procedure.

Sono Bello offers a wide variety of financing options to help support each patient’s ability to afford the procedures they want and achieve their ideal body shape. Patients who are able to pay for their procedure in full quickly may benefit from reduced or no interest.

Are Sono Bello results permanent?

Permanent Fat Removal Disclaimer

Each patient’s results from their Sono Bello procedure are permanent, as fat cells are permanently removed from the body during the liposuction procedure.

When a person loses and gains weight, fat cells do not appear and disappear—rather, the fat cells in their body shrink and grow. When these cells are removed, they will not grow back, but they may expand if a patient gains weight in the future.

Should a patient gain weight after their Sono Bello procedure, it may accumulate in areas where the procedure was not performed, as this is where there are more remaining fat cells.

Even after a liposuction, body contouring, or excess skin removal procedure with Sono Bello, it is important for patients to maintain a proper diet and exercise routine to help maintain the best results.

The safety of liposuction, skin removal, and body contouring procedures have come a long, long way over the last few decades—and at Sono Bello, protecting patient safety has always been a top priority.

While all surgical procedures carry some risk, Sono Bello has specifically adapted their process and procedures to prioritize patient safety and minimize risk for all patients, all procedures, and at all locations across the country.

How safe are Sono Bello procedures?

Sono Bello procedures have been specifically designed to maximize patient safety and minimize the risk of complications.

For years, Sono Bello has been providing safe and high-quality care across the nation, and across multiple procedure types. Sono Bello has even earned accreditation from the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC), an independent, not-for-profit organization, that has closely examined Sono Bello’s facilities, systems, policies, and procedures to verify the organization’s high level of care and safety.

Behind that reputation for safety stands three core pillars of Sono Bello’s quality: patient consultation, skilled surgeons, and modern techniques and technology.

Starting with Expert Consultation

This all starts with the critical step of patient qualification. Every Sono Bello patient starts their journey through a consultation with a Sono Bello patient care consultant, who will help the patient determine which procedure is best for achieving their body goals. Patients then meet with their surgeon directly, who can answer any questions and help provide even more information and finalize their customize surgery plan for the procedure.

Not every patient is the right fit for every procedure: the patient’s body-mass index (BMI), prior health history, and other factors may all impact which Sono Bello procedure will work best for them, or if they are a candidate at all. This consultation is a crucial step toward protecting Sono Bello patient safety.

Skilled Surgeons with Years of Experience

Another important factor helping to make procedures at Sono Bello safe for patients is the combined knowledge, training, and experience of Sono Bello’s plastic & cosmetic surgeons.

More than 185 board-certified surgeons located across Sono Bello’s locations provide not only the high level of expertise required for safe and successful procedures, but also a dedication to care and patient safety. Combining this experience with a personal touch, Sono Bello surgeons are recognized as some of the premier liposuction surgeons across the nation.

Trusted Techniques & Technology for Liposuction & Body Contouring

Sono Bello works to maximize patient safety because each procedure uses time- and safety-tested techniques and technology. This helps ensure maximum patient satisfaction while minimizing overall patient risk.

Another important factor in keeping Sono Bello patients safe is the use of localized anesthesia instead of general anesthesia, which can lead to complications and longer recovery for some patients. By using localized anesthesia instead, Sono Bello patients can remain awake and alert during their procedure.

One such technique is the use of tumescent fluid during the liposuction procedure. Tumescent fluid is a solution of IV fluid combined with lidocaine (for anesthesia to the treated areas of the body) and Epinephrine (a vasoconstrictor to minimize bleeding). The use of tumescent fluid also helps to optimize the amount of fat a Sono Bello surgeon can remove in a 24-hour period, helping protect each patient’s fluid dynamics and keeping them on track for quick and effective healing.

Finally, the technology used by Sono Bello surgeons is itself a major factor in helping protect Sono Bello patient safety. Sono Bello surgeons use a variety of technology and methods depending on the particular procedure—including advanced laser-assisted and power-assisted lipoplasty. When used in combination, these methods can provide a very controlled suction of fat while minimizing scarring and bruising for the patient after the procedure is complete.

How successful are Sono Bello procedures?

Sono Bello body transformation procedures work and have been highly successful helping a variety of patients achieve their ideal body shape over the years.

That is why so many Sono Bello patients see a dramatic change in their appearance followed by a continued boost to their self-confidence.

To date, Sono Bello has helped transform the bodies and lives of more than 300,000 patients. The results speak for themselves, and the 23,000 5-star Google reviews only add to the confidence that patients bring into each procedure with Sono Bello.

Will I be awake or under general anesthesia during my Sono Bello procedure?

Sono Bello patients remain awake during their procedure since no general anesthesia is used in any Sono Bello procedure. Instead, localized anesthesia is used to numb the pain in that area.

As a result, patients remain awake and alert to maintain communication with the surgeon, and to make it easy for the surgeon to reposition the patient to treat each area of the body more accurately.

Frequently Asked Questions About Liposuction Safety and Recovery

How long will my Sono Bello procedure be?

All Sono Bello procedures are one-day procedures, and every patient is out the door for recovery within just a few hours.

Generally, the actual time required for each procedure is determined on a case-by-case basis and may extend or decrease depending on the extent of the procedure and the amount of fat to be removed.

The average liposuction procedure is around 2.5-3 hours, and the excision of skin (AbEX) is around 3-3.5 hours. Patients arrive approximately 1.5 hours before surgery to prepare prior to their procedure and will stay after surgery at least 15 minutes for recovery.

In some cases, patients may need to return for additional procedures. Because some states have laws regarding how much fat can be removed per visit, it may be necessary to treat additional areas of the body in subsequent visits. A consultation with your surgeon can help you best determine if and how your procedures should be spaced out.

Do I have to fill a narcotic prescription after a Sono Bello procedure?

For the most part, narcotic prescriptions are necessary for Sono Bello patients after their procedure. These prescriptions will help control the pain in the early post-operative period, which can provide relief from any pain experienced by patients in the days after their surgery.

On average, Sono Bello patients remain on their prescriptions for around 3 days after their procedure.

Can I drive myself home after a Sono Bello procedure?

Sono Bello patients may not drive themselves home after their procedure. Every Sono Bello patient is required to have a responsible adult, at least 18 years of age, to sign them out after their procedure. Ride sharing services like Uber or Lyft will not qualify as a ride for Sono Bello patients.

It is also highly recommended that this adult remains with the patient for at least 24 hours after the procedure to provide post-operative care, including giving additional medication as needed to keep patients comfortable and relaxed.

Can I bring my significant other to my Sono Bello procedure?

While it is a good idea for patients to bring a trusted friend, family member, or significant other with them on the day of their Sono Bello procedure, no guests are allowed in the surgical areas themselves.

However, following local public health regulations and mask mandates, Sono Bello can accommodate one companion to join patients in the family room. Sono Bello’s care team members can also help patients coordinate before procedures to ensure they have everything needed to proceed with the procedure with confidence.

Chief Medical Officer

For people looking to remove stubborn fat from problem areas, traditional diet and exercise may not always provide the desired results. That’s where TriSculpt micro-laser liposuction may be able to help.

What is TriSculpt Micro-Laser Liposuction?

TriSculpt is an advanced laser-assisted fat removal treatment specifically designed to provide leaner, more sculpted, and natural looking results with a truly high-precision, minimally invasive procedure. Generally, the TriSculpt body contouring procedure follows a three-step process:

1. Localized anesthesia is administered while the patient remains awake

The TriSculpt procedure requires only local anesthesia (rather than general anesthesia), which allows the patient to remain awake and alert while the procedure is underway.

This offers significant benefits for patients who can communicate with the physician during the procedure. It also helps the physician provide better results by making it easier to reposition the patient to treat each area.

Although local anesthesia is all that is required for the procedure, patients who are particularly concerned about remaining awake may be provided medications to help remain relaxed and comfortable.

2. Power-assisted liposuction removes fat from targeted body areas

Once the localized anesthesia has been administered, the physician begins removing fat from the desired areas of the patient’s body using power-assisted liposuction.

This technique removes fat using micro-cannulas and gentle suction, which are especially effective at removing fat from large areas of the body prone to stubborn diet- and exercise-resistant fat.

Thanks to the augmented fat removal capabilities provided by a power source, power-assisted liposuction also provides a greater safety margin compared to some other methods of fat removal, thanks in part to the absence of cavitation generated by the procedure.

3. Micro-laser assisted liposuction provides the finishing touches to small areas

Once the majority of fat is removed from larger areas of the body, special laser-assisted equipment is used to apply finishing touches.

This process applies laser energy to help soften and emulsify the targeted fat and helps smooth out the work done by the power-assisted micro-cannulas.

This is especially useful for contouring areas of the body that have been historically difficult to treat due to their size, including the upper arms and under the chin. Additionally, laser energy may also help stimulate collagen formation of the deep dermis, which can help encourage skin tightening to produce a smooth final appearance of treated areas.

What’s the difference between TriSculpt and other liposuction procedures?

Compared to a traditional liposuction procedure, the TriSculpt procedure truly displays just how far technological advancements in the field of liposuction have come.

While traditional liposuction relies largely on a surgeon’s own muscle power while removing fat, TriSculpt makes the most of power-assisted equipment and laser technology to extract fat with significantly less effort. This leads to less trauma to the treated area, which in turn leads to less post-operative discomfort and swelling.

Also, critically, TriSculpt does not require general anesthesia for the procedure, which significantly reduces the risk that may be associated with traditional liposuction where general anesthesia is used. TriSculpt uses only saltwater IV fluid lidocaine to numb the area, and epinephrine (a hemostatic agent) to minimize bleeding, both in safe amounts designed to keep patients awake and minimize downtime post-procedure.

What parts of the body can be treated with TriSculpt?

The TriSculpt procedure can effectively target a wide range of body parts both large and small.

Patients have achieved their desired results using TriSculpt to target stubborn fat in a number of body parts, including:

  • Love handles
  • Tummy
  • Arms
  • Back
  • Waist
  • Hips
  • Thighs and Legs
  • Abdomen
  • Chest (for men)
  • Chin and jowls
  • Neck

Because TriSculpt micro-laser liposuction combines both power-assisted and micro-laser equipment, the procedure is particularly beneficial for targeting small and delicate areas of the body—including the neck, where traditional liposuction may be less effective or unable to effectively remove fat.

How much fat can TriSculpt remove?

Generally, the amount of fat that can be removed during a TriSculpt liposuction procedure may vary depending on each patient’s specific health conditions, lifestyle, and level of fat buildup in problem areas.

Of course, a healthy lifestyle—including diet and exercise—are a crucial part of any weight loss journey, of which liposuction is just one element. Each liposuction event may result in a maximum of 4000-5000cc of fat being removed, and current state and community standards do limit the increments of fat extraction to 8-10 pounds per event.

But while the number on the scale may be an easy guidepost for many patients to measure their progress, the real benefit of a procedure like TriSculpt is volume reduction.

The loss of volume after a liposuction procedure like TriSculpt can be dramatic and can give the appearance of significant weight loss in targeted areas—even if the patient’s total weight has not really changed all that much, their appearance may be quite different.

How much does TriSculpt cost?

The actual cost of the TriSculpt procedure is determined by each patient’s specific body and goals. The best way to determine the cost of TriSculpt for each patient is through a free consultation with a local Sono Bello location.

Several factors play a role in determining the cost of TriSculpt for each patient, including:

  • Body Mass Index (BMI): How much fat a patient has on their body will determine the amount of fat to be removed during the TriSculpt procedure. We can treat patients with a BMI of 42 and lower.
  • Number of body areas treated: The more areas of the body treated during a single procedure, the lower the cost to the patient for each individual area. Any additional treatments added to the TriSculpt procedure (like excess skin removal or cellulite reduction) will increase cost.
  • Promotions & savings: Sono Bello often offers promotions or savings for the TriSculpt procedure, which can help lower cost for patients.

Payment for the TriSculpt procedure can be arranged to fit the patient’s budget, and Sono Bello offers multiple financing options and payment plans for patients.

Who is a good candidate for TriSculpt?

The TriSculpt micro-laser liposuction procedure is designed for flexibility, making it a reliable choice for anyone looking to remove stubborn fat from otherwise hard-to-reach areas of the body.

Because the procedure is designed to minimize risks and maximize fat removal, it can be a safe and effective choice for a wide range of individuals.

Still, there are some important factors to consider when determining whether a patient is a good candidate for the TriSculpt procedure, including:

  • Patients struggling with stubborn fat on specific areas of the body
  • People for whom diet and exercise failed to reduce body fat
  • Anyone with fat buildup on small areas (like the neck)
  • Patients with a Body Mass Index (BMI) between 18 and 42
  • Healthy patients with no major pre-existing conditions (uncontrolled diabetes, oxygen requirements, blood thinning medications, kidney or liver disorders, pacemakers, etc.)

Patients who do not display any qualities that would otherwise complicate the TriSculpt procedure should talk with their Sono Bello surgeon prior to scheduling to confirm their eligibility.

What happens to skin after the TriSculpt procedure removes fat?

After the TriSculpt procedure is finished, it may take a small amount of time for skin to tighten and smooth back to its pre-surgical appearance.

Does TriSculpt leave scars?

TriSculpt is specifically designed to minimize scarring and reduce recovery time after the procedure.

Because TriSculpt uses micro-cannulas and smaller surgical instruments, surgeons can remove fat using small incisions. This helps minimize swelling as well, which can facilitate faster recovery to help scars heal faster and more completely after the procedure is finished.

For many patients, minor scarring can heal almost completely within a few months after the TriSculpt procedure is complete.

Is TriSculpt painful?

For most patients, TriSculpt is painless during the procedure itself. Localized anesthetics help minimize or eliminate pain during the procedure.

How long is recovery from TriSculpt? Does recovery hurt?

Recovery from the TriSculpt procedure usually involves minimal discomfort, and most patients heal quickly from the surgery itself.

Most patients experience a short post-operative recovery period after the procedure, usually with prescriptions and instructions for postoperative use from their surgeon. Surgeons may leave some incision sites open to allow tumescent fluid (an IV solution used during the procedure) to drain.

Fortunately, because TriSculpt uses smaller tools and less-invasive techniques, it can provide significant fat reduction in even delicate areas of the body while minimizing swelling, avoiding uneven contouring or excessive bruising, and reducing overall discomfort after the procedure is over.

Some swelling may occur in the treated areas for 2-3 months after the TriSculpt procedure, and this swelling will gradually decrease over time. Once the areas begin to even out, patients will be instructed to massage the area to encourage a smooth final appearance.

How long until I see results from TriSculpt?

Results from the Trisculpt procedure usually vary for each patient, but on average patients will start to see results within days or just a few weeks.

Usually, patients will be instructed to wear a compression device for at least 3-6 weeks afterward to encourage smooth results, with final results usually seen within 6 months after the TriSculpt procedure.

When can I return to normal activities after TriSculpt?

Immediately after the TriSculpt procedure, patients will be instructed to rest and avoid physical activity for around 24 hours.

Within one or two days, patients can safely return to walking and light activity. Most patients can also return to work within 2-3 days after the TriSculpt procedure.

However, patients should avoid strenuous activity like bending, twisting, and heavy lifting for around 4-6 weeks, or until they have received clearance from their surgeon or nurse.

Normal exercise and activity are encouraged (as instructed by a surgeon) to help avoid the pooling of blood in the lower extremities and pelvis. Light exercise can usually be resumed after 2 weeks post-surgery, as long as heavy lifting is not involved.

After performing more than 300,000 fat removal and body contouring procedures, Sono Bello’s team of more than 185 board-certified plastic surgeons have seen how the removal of excess body fat can improve a patient’s life both in terms of their self-confidence and their physical health.

When a person has the burden of unwanted fat cells removed from their body, they become free to pursue a more active and fulfilling lifestyle.

Each of our patients has a unique set of goals and obstacles. Therefore, our skilled surgical team offers a diverse range of procedures to ensure the best possible outcomes.

Here is a bit more detail on all the life-changing benefits that our patients receive from their Sono Bello surgery.

Sono Bello Liposuction: A Minimally Invasive Procedure

Liposuction technology has advanced in recent years to become less invasive and more efficient. The old technique of using large metal tubes hooked up to a suction machine to remove excess fat is, fortunately, a thing of the past.

Sono Bello is now able to remove more unwanted subcutaneous fat with laser-like accuracy.

Sono Bello’s TriSculpt method, for instance, is a micro-laser liposuction procedure that permanently removes fat cells from a patient’s body.

Rather than relying solely on the strength and steadiness of the surgeon’s hands, laser-assisted liposuction aids the surgeon during the body contouring procedure. The lasers are used to gently soften and dislodge stubborn fat, allowing it to be more easily removed.

High precision and minimal invasiveness enable Sono Bello to give patients a more natural look by causing less trauma to their bodies.

Sono Bello Specializes in Fast Surgery and Fast Recovery for Liposuction Patients

The liposuction procedure itself is relatively quick and painless.

Inside the operating room, patients are administered minimal oral sedation mixed with local anesthesia—not general anesthesia—to ensure a pleasant and safe experience.

Once the patient is comfortably situated (some like to play their own music during the operation), small incisions are made in targeted areas, and microcannulas (tubes) powered by the latest tech and assisted by micro-lasers are used to eliminate unwanted fat deposits from those parts of the body.

By making small incisions and using small tubes, Sono Bello surgeons can avoid inadvertently damaging the tissue surrounding the unwanted fat cells.

Traditional liposuction procedures use a larger incision and a larger liposuction cannula because they expedite the surgery. However, these larger tools can also result in more trauma to the patient’s abdomen and less natural-looking results. That is why Sono Bello prefers to use more precise instruments.

After the surgery is completed, it typically takes patients a couple of days to recover. The time it takes for someone to fully heal varies case-by-case. However, it is not uncommon for patients to go into surgery on a Friday and be back working at their jobs on Monday.

Even if they don’t feel comfortable returning to work, most patients are able to resume their day-to-day routines within three days. It is normal for some swelling to last up to a week, and the surgical incisions won’t be fully healed for 15 days.

For a more in-depth breakdown of the liposuction recovery process, read this insightful article on the subject in Sono Bello’s liposuction resources section.

Achieve More Natural-Looking Results with Sono Bello Liposuction

Our surgeons’ goal is to reveal a patient’s natural beauty. Their skill combined with Sono Bello’s advanced micro-laser technology makes achieving natural-looking results more attainable than ever.

Micro-lasers assist in the liberation of fat during liposuction. The laser energy softens the fat and makes it easier to remove. A smoother operation means a smoother, more sculpted finish. Less collateral injury to surrounding tissues leaves patients looking and feeling better after surgery.

In addition to helping the surgeon with fat removal, micro-laser technology also tightens and strengthens the skin by stimulating the collagen (the main structural protein in your connective tissues) in the deep dermis. This means less sagging, loose skin.

Collagen is a strong, fibrous protein that supports the structure of your skin. When your skin is stimulated by lasers during TriSculpt liposuction, a natural regenerative process is triggered in the dermis that produces new collagen peptides which strengthen and tighten your skin.

Enhanced tightness and elasticity promote a healthier, more natural look post-operation.

Enjoy All the Lifestyle Benefits of a Successful Sono Bello Liposuction

A patient’s Sono Bello journey doesn’t end when their excess fat deposits have been eliminated. Recovery is a critical step in each patient’s journey to their body transformation—and Sono Bello specializes in making each patient’s recovery process as effective, simple, and painless as possible.

Once a patient’s post-op recovery and healing processes are complete and they’re finally able to shed their compression garment, Sono Bello patients report that they (and their newly transformed bodies) experience a higher quality of life.

They start exercising more regularly, dive back into the dating pool, pick up new hobbies, experience success in their careers, and set a better example for their children. Here’s how:

Getting Back in the Gym to Build Healthy Habits After Liposuction

Excess fat can make working out challenging for two reasons.

First, being overweight makes cardiovascular exercises like walking, running, and hiking difficult because of the strain that it puts on one’s joints.

Secondly, if a person is feeling self-conscious about their appearance, it can discourage them from working out in public places.

Liposuction surgery can help kickstart a person’s fitness journey by getting them to a place where they feel comfortable and confident about going to the gym. The removal of excess body fat removes some of the strain that was being put on a person’s hips, knees, and ankles.

Exercise plays a key role in the recovery process, helping the body to heal by encouraging blood flow and a strong healing response. Good exercise habits are also crucial to maintaining a patient’s desired body, as it is still possible for a patient’s remaining fat cells (not removed during liposuction) to expand with weight gain.

For this reason, the Sono Bello medical team recommends that all patients follow a healthy diet and exercise routine post procedure (and beyond) to ensure optimal results from a liposuction procedure.

Picking up Hobbies After Weight Loss from Liposuction

Sono Bello patients often report that they began participating in activities like hiking and kickboxing after their liposuction. For many, this can be attributed (at least partially) to the increased confidence that patients feel after their surgery.

A patient’s transformed body may make them feel more adventurous and therefore more likely to pick up new hobbies. For some patients, their weight loss also literally gives them the physical abilities to take part in activities that they were not able or allowed to participate in before due to their size or body shape.

For example: Kathy Green, a Sono Bello patient from Austin, TX said that she was excited to begin zip-lining after her surgery because she didn’t meet the weight requirement before. After liposuction with Sono Bello, Kathy was able to get out on the zip-line course and experience a new activity with confidence.

With the help of professional, surgical fat removal through Sono Bello liposuction, patients can achieve their ideal body shape and get back to (or start exploring) the activities they weren’t able to enjoy due to their weight.

Every Sono Bello Journey Starts with a Free Consultation

Every patient’s body is unique. Therefore, each liposuction procedure should be tailored to fit that patient’s fat-loss goals. If a patient believes that cosmetic surgery would improve their life, it is worth considering scheduling a free consultation at your earliest convenience with the Sono Bello patient care consultant to explore how liposuction may be able to help.

Once a patient has decided on the type of procedure that they want to have and which areas of their body that they would like sculpted, they can go ahead and schedule an appointment with their local Sono Bello surgeon. Fortunately, with over 185 doctors at over 80+locations nationwide, most patients have no trouble finding a nearby Sono Bello location where they can schedule their procedure.

When it comes to a patient’s health and happiness, everyone deserves the best–and Sono Bello may be able to help. All it takes is a free consultation with a Sono Bello customer care consultant and every patient can be on their way to their ideal body shape.

Liposuction has become a common cosmetic procedure to provide optimal fat loss results for patients with persistent “problem areas”. An effective treatment to slim and reshape the bodyliposuction works by removing excess fat deposits and improving contours and proportion. It is not intended for weight loss or treatment for obesity, but rather to get rid of stubborn fat deposits not amenable by diet or exercise.

When it comes to long-term fat loss, liposuction has the distinct advantage over other noninvasive treatment options like Coolsculpting in that one treatment session, in the majority of times, is adequate to reduce the fat with a more consistent and predictable outcome.

And the really good news is that virtually anyone with unwanted fat can benefit from liposuction.

Body Parts That Can Be Treated with Liposuction

Liposuction can treat various areas of the body — most often several areas in just one procedure. The areas that can be treated are:

  • Inner/Outer Thighs
  • Arms
  • Back Bra Roll (BBR)
  • Hip Dips
  • Banana Roll
  • Buffalo Hump
  • Knees
  • Ankles

Each liposuction procedure is different depending on the body part, and ultimately, all procedures are uniquely tailored to each patient’s individual needs to promote the best possible results. In this article, we’ll discuss the areas of the body that are most commonly treated with liposuction and provide some brief background on considerations that surgeons must take when conducting each of these procedures.

Inner and Outer Thighs

The inner and outer thigh is a common area for liposuction, since fat extraction can provide a contoured, more youthful, more proportionate leg appearance for the patient. Despite this, leg liposuction is actually considered quite difficult. This is because the leg — especially the upper leg — has the lowest threshold for adverse contour irregularities. Therefore, judicial conservatism is the rule in terms of fat extraction

On the inner thigh, the skin is generally thin and therefore less tolerant of aggressive volume reduction. It’s important to understand that the inner thigh is composed of anterior, medial, and posterior regions — and each of these regions needs to be addressed in order to achieve the best, most attractive outcome.

The outer thigh provides easy fat extraction — but don’t get “trapped” into taking too much off. This will lead to contour depression from over resection. To prevent this, a wedge in between the legs in a lateral position is used to offset the natural tendency to extract more fat than desired.

Arms

While the anterior (bicep) region isn’t typically treated with arm liposuction, the posterior (triceps) region is a common area for fat extraction. It’s important to treat the lateral upper arm by having the patient press the arm against their side to accentuate this region during marking. Also, a comprehensive understanding of the arm’s proper anatomy is of the utmost importance to avoid deep structures, i.e.: nerves, vessels, etc.

Back Bra Roll (BBR)

On the back bra roll region, the skin is very thick — many times thicker than that of the abdomen. With that said, it is important to recognize this anatomy and penetrate the full thickness of the skin before aspiration. Otherwise, it’ll lead to painful, bloody aspiration.

It’s also important to disrupt the tight skin banding of the BBR and waist junction to allow for better redraping of the skin to improve its persistent “hang that often exists even with aggressive fat extraction.

Hip Dips

In various parts of the body, there exist “zones of adherence”. These are natural body boundaries that serve to separate different body zones, or groups of body parts. One such area is the “hip dip”which separates the hip from the outer thigh. This is a common area for liposuction. It is important to recognize and respect the zones of natural adherence to further accentuate the preexisting contour dips.

Banana Roll

The “banana roll” region, or the “under butt” — where the leg connects to the buttocks — is another area commonly treated with liposuction. However, conservative fat extraction is the universal rule for this region. Why? To avoid aesthetic pitfalls and contour irregularities like gluteal crease effacement — also known as “droopy butt”.

Buffalo Hump

Like the BBR region, the “buffalo hump” region has thick skin. Again, understanding the anatomy of this area is important — especially because the spinal cord is underneath. For surgeons, it’s important to feather the circumference to ease the transition around the edges.

Knees

Typically, only the medial knee is treated with liposuction. Treatment of the anterior knee (right above the kneecap) can lead to skin overhang, which many consider very unsightly.

Liposuction is especially useful when treating the inner thighs to ease the transition to the knee region. Like the inner thigh, it’s important to treat the anterior, medial, and posterior knee region.

Ankles

In most cases, ankle liposuction isn’t performed on its own. The calf or the complete lower leg are also often shaped to create more pleasing outcomes. While performing ankle or lower leg liposuction, it’s important is to ensure that overall proportion is correct and incision placement is strategic.

Dr. Anire Okpaku:

The most common areas that we do here at Sono Bello are the abs and waist, and the hips. And obviously, those are the most problematic areas for most people. In guys we do chest a lot, and in women we do inner and outer thighs a lot, as well as, the mid-upper back are also big areas that we do for women. Also with the women, we do a lot of, what we call the E/X, which is basically a mini tummy-tuck, which we do with local anesthesia, and patients are extremely comfortable when we do it and have excellent results.

A common question many Sono Bello patients ask is, “Should I lose weight before getting liposuction?”. The answer is not as straightforward as you might think.

In short: yes, it can be helpful to lose weight before getting liposuction. But it’s not always necessary or recommended. In this article, we unpack the pros and cons of losing weight before liposuction, plus how to prep and the ideal pre-procedure weight.

Fat Loss vs. Weight Loss

Liposuction is a fat removal procedure. Unlike other medical techniques, such as bariatric surgeriesliposuction promotes targeted fat loss — not overall weight loss.

A transformative procedure like liposuction can undoubtedly help a patient kickstart a healthier lifestylewhich may result in weight loss — but it does not promise significant weight loss.

Losing Weight Before Liposuction: Pros

What do you want your body to look like after liposuction? Answering this question can help you decide if you should lose weight before liposuction and how much you should lose.

If highly targeted fat loss in pesky problem areas is what you are seeking from liposuction, then you may not need to lose weight before getting the procedure. You may already be in a good place to accomplish optimal results.

minimally invasive procedure such as TriSculpt micro-laser liposuction from Sono Bello could be the perfect option if you are looking to remove excess fat from specific areas on your body.

Alternatively, if overall weight loss is your top goal, it may be preferable for you to lose weight before undergoing any liposuction treatments if you want to maximize your potential results.

In fact, losing weight can have a profound impact on the skin’s natural ability to contract without the need for excisional procedures. Gradual weight loss can also promote a natural improvement in contour that is hard to duplicate by surgical methods, including liposuction. Furthermore, maintaining weight within normal range will help preserve the skin’s elastic quality. Natural weight loss boasts many benefits that can undoubtedly put a potential liposuction patient on the fast track to achieving their desired outcome.

However, if optimal results aren’t achieved, liposuction remains a fantastic option to treat stubborn areas of fat deposit.

Losing Weight Before Liposuction: Cons

It’s not that there are cons to losing weight before liposuction. It’s that losing weight before liposuction may not be possible or favorable for some patients.

We understand that natural weight loss is often easier said than done and can even cause frustration due to unrewarded psychological and physical commitment.

In this instance, individuals may then turn to liposuction for spot reduction of unwanted fat (and often, the resulting skin excess tooat Sono Bello through the AbEX procedureproviding them with a fresh start. This is still an effective way to start on the path to achieving your desired results.

Ideal Pre-Lipo Weight & How to Prep

The ideal pre-liposuction weight for you will depend on your unique anatomy and body goals. To promote optimal results, you should be at a stable weight that is close to your goal but still sustainable long-term. It is recommended to be within approximately 30 pounds of your goal weight.

Getting to this weight could be a key part of your procedure prep depending on your background and future goals. Either way, there are still some tried-and-true steps every patient can take to promote positive outcomes before going into their procedure

These include adopting healthier habits, setting realistic expectations, and more. Check out this quick blog post for our top five liposuction prep tips.

What is Neck Rejuvenation?

Neck rejuvenation is a much sought after improvement by many people.  This is true for both the young and the elderly, ranging from normal weight to those who desire to lose a few pounds.  Regardless of one’s personal age and weight, there are many advertised modalities out there, many claiming to be the “best.”  So how does one decide what is truly the best option?  And while the old adage, “if it sounds too good to be true” is often said, for this discussion, it may have some relevance.

There are many “non-invasive” modalities for neck rejuvenation – ranging from expensive “laser type” units which can freeze the fat (cryolipolysis) to chemical agents that can dissolve the fat.  While there is some benefit to these modalities, it is the experience of many patients, that the results are less dramatic than desired, and at times, completely ineffective.  Furthermore, for most of these options, several treatment sessions are required to see a difference.  On the other range of the spectrum, there is the traditional neck lift procedure (often done in conjunction with a facelift).

Are Chin Lipo and a Neck Lift the Same?

While neck lift is a tried and true method for improving the neck contour and profile, it is a major surgery often requiring deep sedation or even general anesthesia with subsequent prolonged recovery and extensive scarring.  So is there a right balance of invasiveness with efficacy? One such option may be the procedure offered by Sono Bello: TriSculpt.

TriSculpt is a minimally invasive micro-laser procedure that can permanently improve the neck contour by permanently removing the fat while tightening the skin – all done in about an hour, in a single session with just gentle oral sedation.  There is typically only a single small opening through which the entire procedure is conducted.  And because there is no use of general anesthesia nor extensive scars to heal, the recovery is often short and more comfortable.  Does this sound too good to be true?  According to nearly 200,000 patients who have undergone chin lipo, it is true.

Find out for yourself if TriSculpt is right for you.

Liposuction is a cosmetic surgery intended to sculpt and change the body shape. This is achieved by the surgical aspiration of subcutaneous body fat via a variety of methods. Many people approach the procedure with a general idea of the results they want to achieve and how much they would like to pay but do not have a clear understanding as to what the cost of liposuction entails.

How Much Does Liposuction Cost?

There are several factors that play a role in determining how much a liposuction procedure will cost, and each person’s procedure may be different. Generally, four main variables have the largest impact on the cost of liposuction:

  • The individual’s Body Mass Index (BMI)
  • The number of areas being treated
  • The amount of medication needed for the procedure
  • The length of time required for the procedure

By understanding how each of these factors can impact the cost of liposuction, you can better understand how liposuction is priced.

How Does Body Mass Index (BMI) Impact the Cost of Liposuction?

Liposuction’s price tag depends on various factors, which include body mass index (BMI), the type of liposuction performed, the number of areas that are treated, the amount of fat removed, and facility cost. Each of these involves individual elements that affect cost. Operating at a hospital is most costly, followed by free standing ambulatory surgery centers versus office based surgical units. When using a sliding pay scale, BMI is a crucial factor in determining the cost. A higher BMI indicates a higher percentage of body fat. The number of areas that will be treated also contributes to the cost of liposuction. Some areas can be addressed during the same session, while others may require a return visit. Additionally, the amount of fat removed plays a role in determining the cost. Eliminating large amounts of fat requires longer procedures and increases the resources needed.

How is Body Mass Index Calculated?

Body mass index (BMI) is a calculation used as a screening tool for body fat mass based on weight and height. Generally, a higher BMI indicates the presence of more body fat. An exception is highly muscular people. Because muscle mass weighs more than fat, muscular individuals may have a higher BMI but a low percentage of body fat.

The following equation is used to calculate BMI:

BMI = weight in kilograms/(height in meters)2

Flemish astronomer Lambert Adolph Jacque Quetelet first introduced the concept of a unified system for determining “social averages” in body size in 1835. At the time, body size was calculated by dividing the weight by the height. This equation, however, did not take into account the extra bone mass of taller people. It was determined that most of a person’s body fat is carried in the trunk, and a new equation was necessary to account for leg length in taller people. Squaring the height addresses this concern. It diminishes the contribution of leg length to the equation and levels out body mass at various heights.

In 1972, Ancel Keys popularized Quetelet’s findings under the term body mass index, and by 1993, the World Health Organization (WHO) had developed a system of categories using BMI as a determinant of people’s weight classification. The chart below details the classification categories currently in use:

BMI Categories

  • BMI of less than 18.5 is classified as underweight.
  • BMI of 18.5 to less than 25 is classified as normal.
  • BMI of 25 to less than 30 is classified as overweight.
  • BMI of 30 or higher is classified as obese.

Obesity is further classified into the following categories:

  • BMI of 30 to less than 35 is class I obesity.
  • BMI of 35 to less than 40 is class II obesity.
  • BMI of 40 or higher is class III obesity.

Because a higher BMI indicates a higher percentage of body fat, liposuction procedures for individuals with higher BMIs cost more because more body fat is removed.

Factors that Impact the Cost of Liposuction

Different Types of Liposuction Procedures

When evaluating liposuction, it’s important to understand that there are various methods that can be used, each of which can affect cost. Conventional liposuction is the oldest method and is rarely used due to its high incidence of complications. Tumescent liposuction is now considered the gold standard and can be used in combination with other modalities, such as power-assisted liposuction (PAL), ultrasound-assisted liposuction (UAL), and laser-assisted liposuction (LAL). Combining these modalities affects the cost of treatment.

Preoperative Factors that Affect the Cost of Liposuction

Before the procedure, certain factors must be taken into account when considering cost. Appropriate staff is required to provide patient counseling, which includes explaining the process and clarifying expectations. A thorough medical history must be obtained, and a detailed physical exam must be completed.

Adequate nursing staff must be available to administer pre-op medications as well as to monitor and record vital signs.

Factors During Surgery That Affect the Cost of Liposuction

During surgery, several factors affect the cost of liposuction. Adequate nursing and medical staff must be present. General anesthesia can be administered by CRNAs and anesthesiologists. Many surgeons in the community use CRNAs to keep costs down. Longer procedures require the professional staff to be present longer, increasing the cost of treatment.

The cost of anesthesia and other medications used also increases with the length of the procedure. A longer procedure means that more medication is needed. In addition, during tumescent liposuction, more lidocaine solution is required if the area treated is large or if multiple areas are treated. Additionally, patients with higher BMIs require more fat to be removed, which increases the time required to aspirate the fat, which increases the costs.

Postoperative Factors That Affect the Cost of Liposuction

After surgery, care must be taken to ensure a relatively painless and safe recovery. In tumescent liposuction, postoperative care plays an essential role to minimize the need for postoperative pain medication. Antibiotics, however, are continued to prevent postop infection.

How Much Does Sono Bello Cost?

Many factors influence the cost of liposuction in all stages of treatment:

  • Body mass index plays a significant role in determining cost. A higher BMI generally means that there is more fat to remove, which increases the cost of liposuction. The type of procedure performed and the facility the procedure takes place in also affects the cost. Procedures that require general anesthesia cost more than those that can be performed under local anesthesia. The use of expensive equipment such as ultrasound machines for UAL also increases the cost.
  • The number of areas being treated plays a role in cost. Treating multiple areas may require multiple visits, or if several areas are treated in the same session, surgery time is increased.
  • The amount of medication needed before, during, and after the procedure affects cost. Local anesthesia generally incurs less cost than general anesthesia. Larger individuals may require higher doses of other medications, such as antibiotics and analgesics.
  • The length of the procedures affects the cost of treatment. Longer surgeries require more extended medical care and more medications.
  • Most complications are rare but can add to the total cost of liposuction if they require additional treatment.

Today, there many different liposuction modalities are available. Depending on the patient’s desired outcome, physical condition, and financial commitment, a treatment plan can be designed for individualized care.
